Design & Technology

In Design and Technology (DT) we encourage pupils to use their imagination and creativity to design and make products that solve real and relevant problems within a variety of contexts, considering their own and others' needs, wishes and values. They work creatively to solve problems both as individuals and as members of a team, being supportive of one another and ensuring that everyone has a voice.

During the design process, the children show resilience and perseverance by continually adapting their designs and products. We aim for the children to be excited by challenges and work cooperatively towards meeting the agreed design criteria. Achievements in DT will be acknowledged and celebrated. We aim to, wherever possible, make links to other disciplines such as mathematics, science, engineering, computing and art. Pupils are also given opportunities to learn about designers throughout history. Through reflection and evaluation of past and present design and technology, children develop a critical understanding of its impact on daily life and the wider world. We want our pupils to question and think innovatively about the world around them in order to design and develop their own products with a purpose in mind.
