Events

Friends of Milecastle are excited to announce that a tremendous total of over £2000 was raised at the Summer Fayre on Saturday 25th June 2017 and that was in just 3 hours!

It was another fantastic event, there was even a small queue waiting to get in at 11am! The fayre was expertly opened by Rev Juliet and there was a steady flurry of families coming in and staying right up until we finished at 2pm!  Lots of people from the Milecastle community enjoyed meeting our volunteers from the Tyne & Wear Fire & Rescue, Northumbria Police and Army Cadets and enjoying a number of other free activities such as making arts and crafts with Family Learning and playing sports with Hat Tricks, Futsal and Newburn Volleyball Club. Many enjoyed having a play on the bouncy castle and slide, getting their faces painted, nails and glitter tattoos done, winning some great prizes on all the stalls and games, taking part in and watching the wonderful entertainment by our very own Glee, Cheer and Creative Dance Clubs, enjoying the BBQ, drinking tea, eating cake and generally having fun! It was a little bit windy but no rain for us this year and the sun shone. All in all everyone was happy and there was a really lovely atmosphere! There are some great pics on Milecastle’s website if you’ve not already seen them.

We would like to thank all who supported us in making Milecastle Primary School Summer Fayre 2017 a fantastic day. Yet again we were overwhelmed at the support we received from a range of organisations and local businesses, through their volunteering of services, contributing refreshments on the day and the amazing donating of prizes for the silent auctions, raffle, tombolas and other competitions. It was truly heart warming how generous people were. We are still in the process of thanking them all individually, letting them know about the day and how we got on. Please do have a look at just how many generous organisations worked with us, most of which are hopefully represented here by way of their logos! In turn, please support them with your business where possible and please don’t be shy in letting them know that you were at the event and how you enjoyed it! Some of them are small businesses and it was brilliant they supported us so do like and share their Facebook pages too if you can!

With huge thanks also to all of the children, staff, parents and carers for taking part whether in time spent performing, baking, donating, volunteering and much more - including coming along on the day of course! The day couldn’t have been such a success without the fantastic Milecastle community of staff and families.

Money raised over the last year has been towards the following:

  •  Outdoor play houses painted
  • Reception Yard Mud Kitchen complete with utensils, outdoor kitchenware, recipe discs, rain diverter kit and water butt – already proving very popular and great for imagination and role play
  • Spider house, ladybird house and wobble foot playground balance
  • ‘Stage’ areas and canopies in both KS1 and KS2 playgrounds, multi use areas for play and learning. Can also be used with cushions for quieter seating/ reading areas.
  • Large outdoor cushions and packs of smaller outdoor cushions for all years to use, along with extra large picnic blankets and outdoor clipboards
  • Playground storage boxes with giant games such as snakes & ladders, skittles, giant dominoes and mega high towers.
  • Weaving willow huts and tunnel, giant wicker shapes and weaving ribbons
  • Group reader ‘pod’ and outdoor cushions for Year 1 area
  • New hula hoops for all Year Groups

 Coming soon…

  • Year 1 Yard tidy/ revamp
  • Funding to subsidise or pay for a festive treat, possibly a theatre production

With the £2000+ raised from Summer Fayre 2017 (also hopefully to be match funded by Barclays), one of the things it will be used for is to celebrate Milecastle’s 50th birthday later this year, with the children working with a local artist/ carpenter to design and create an outdoor story chair and story circle. Something beautiful to celebrate Milecastle’s 50th birthday and leave a legacy to future pupils from our children of 2017.

In order to sustain the great work that FOM do and continue with events such as the Summer Fayre, it is vital that new members or helpers become involved to replace those parents and carers of pupils finishing their time at Milecastle. We are a friendly bunch, always looking for new ways to raise money and new faces are always welcome so just let the School Office or FOM Chair Sarah Dickson know if you fancy coming along any time!  Meetings take place approximately once a term, sometimes a little more frequently leading up to an event. Your involvement can range from helping out on the day of an event to being a full time committee member who helps to plan and co-ordinate events and decide on how funds are spent in school (Secretary and Treasurer are both leaving in July 2017, no pressure, eek!)

With huge thanks,

Friends of Milecastle

FAMILY FUN NIGHT & CEILIDH

We'd like to say a huge thank you to all those who supported the 'Friends of Milecastle Family Ceilidh and Fun Night' on Wednesday.  We had a lovely night and everyone who came had a dance and joined in the quiz (which was particularly hard this year I might add).  I don't think anyone on Strictly has anything to worry about, nor Mastermind for that matter!

Congratulations to the winners of some fantastic prizes, thank you to the following for their generous prize donations!

Newcastle Greyhound Stadium - www.newcastledogs@williamhill.co.uk

Thank you as always to Mrs Rae, Mrs Richardson, Mrs Matthewson, Mr Miller, Mrs Beaton, Mrs Wigham and all others involved.

Please continue to support Friends of Milecastle events.   The Friends of Milecastle are a group of volunteers with children at Milecastle, raising money to benefit our children and future children of Milecastle... and hopefully have some fun along the way!   We're always looking for new parents and carers to join in!

FRIENDS OF MILECASTLE ARE VERY EXCITED TO ANNOUNCE THAT A TREMENDOUS TOTAL OF £3144 WAS RAISED AT THE SUMMER FAYRE ON SATURDAY 2nd JULY 2016!

We were absolutely thrilled with the event, which went very smoothly and was a huge success - apart from a little rain but it didn’t stop anyone enjoying themselves! Families from Milecastle and beyond turned out in their hundreds and stayed for the day while having a play on the bouncy castle and slide, meeting our volunteers from the Police and Fire Services, visiting the stalls and games, watching and taking part in the fantastic entertainment, making arts and crafts, drinking tea, eating BBQ burgers and cake and generally having fun! Thanks to Mrs Rae and Rev Juliet Stephenson from Holy Nativity in Chapel House for opening the fayre, also to a couple of local lads you might know who sent us a video message - we were soooo excited about that!

We would like to thank the fantastic staff and families of Milecastle very much for supporting the Summer Fayre in the many number of ways that you did. For staff to give up their Saturday after a long week at school meant a lot to us! Also for donating goodies for the tombolas and bake offs, helping us in the run up to the fayre and volunteering to man the stalls and games on the day… and of course being there and spending your money! It had such a great atmosphere and was lovely how everyone who visited took part and enjoyed the day.

We were also overwhelmed at the support we received from a range of organisations and local businesses, through their volunteering of services, the donation of refreshments on the day and the amazing donations of prizes for the silent auctions, raffles, tombolas and other competitions. It was truly heart warming how generous people were. We are still in the process of thanking them all individually, letting them know about the day and how we got on. Their logos and/ or names are attached below, so please don’t be shy in letting them know that you were at the event and how you enjoyed it! Some of them are small businesses and it was brilliant they supported us, so do ‘like and share’ their Facebook pages too if you can!

The positive comments on the day and since the event (and the fantastic total of £3144!) We are also hoping for Barclays to match fund £1000 which would be even better. What an incredible amount to add to our outdoor adventure playground funds - brochures are being looked at and ideas discussed, which we are all very excited about!

Thank you once again for your support - the day couldn’t have been such a success without the fantastic Milecastle community of staff and families.

We are always looking for new ways to raise money and new faces are always welcome to Friends of Milecastle. We usually meet once or twice a term so just let the School Office or FOM Chair Sarah Dickson know if you fancy coming along any time.

HALLOWEEN DISCO 2015

Thank you to everyone who supported the 'Friends of Milecastle' Halloween Discos on Tuesday, they were both a great success!

With the help of Morrison’s for donating hotdogs, Warburton’s and Tesco’s for donating the buns and Asda for donating the cakes, we were able to make a profit of a whopping £375 with ticket and tuck shop sales which is just brilliant.  We are hugely grateful to their Community Fund Champions for supporting the event as all of the money made will be banked towards the outdoor play project.

Thanks also to all the parent helpers, it was lovely to see some new faces (hope your eardrums are ok), new faces are always welcome!  Some of the costumes were great; everyone really seemed to enjoy themselves and the music and dancing a real treat for the children and parents alike! Thanks as always to Mrs Rae and Mr Miller and I’m sure plenty of others who have a hand in helping to get the tickets sold and in various other ways. Please check the Friends of Milecastle section of the school website now and then for other news. The next disco will be the Valentines Disco in February 2016.
